In industrial manufacturing, the budget you set usually defines the ceiling for throughput, quality, and automation you can reach.
This article uses three familiar purchasing brackets—RMB 50 k, 100 k and 200 k—as yardsticks to compare resistance spot welders, laser welders and robot welding cells head-to-head.

  • Pros: simple mechanics, low maintenance, repeatable nuggets.

Laser welding (entry level)

50 k will buy a hand-held 1 kW fibre-laser welder—enough for nice-looking seams on stainless sheet, but quality still depends on the operator and repeatability is far below that of a fixed-optics system.
  • Fit for: low-volume custom shops that need cosmetic joints.


Robot welding (not realistic)

A compliant industrial robot cell simply cannot be bought new at this price; second-hand or training-grade units are the only option and are not recommended for production. If automation is mandatory, optimise manual fixtures or add simple jigs instead.


III. Budget ≈ RMB 100 k: mid-/high-end spot or fixed laser, robots become realistic

Spot welding – step up to stability

  • 100 k buys a servo-press, fully programmable spot welder with built-in quality monitoring.
  • Add-ons at this price: auto loading table, precision fixture, first-layer SPC/traceability.
  • Typical uses: motor laminations, auto small stampings, white-goods high-volume lines.
  • Gain: higher weld consistency, yield and data logging for medium-batch production.

Laser welding – move to an industrial fixed station

  • Budget covers 1.5–2 kW cabinet-type fibre laser welder plus basic tooling for semi-automatic or continuous operation.
  • Target parts: filter housings, stainless enclosures, battery cases—joints that must look good and stay cool.
  • Fit for: SMEs that need cosmetic seams and higher speed but must stay within a limited budget.

Robot welding – entry-level becomes possible

  • 100 k will secure a domestic 6-axis robot integrated with simple spot-gun or retro-fitted hand-held laser (use with care).
  • Light-load spot-robot stations are also available, though features are restricted.
  • Best introduced on repetitive point jobs where flexibility is wanted.
  • Remember: total cost includes not only the robot arm but also fixtures, programming time, safety fence and light curtains—allow for these extras in the budget.


IV. Budget ≈ RMB 200 k: stepping into true mid-range automation and industrial laser / robot era

Spot welding – line-level cells

  • 200 k buys a dedicated automated spot-welding machine, multi-gun servo station or even a mini-line, complete with PLC, sensors, in-line quality check and MES interface.
  • Target users: Tier-1/2 automotive suppliers or white-goods OEMs that need high output, low labour, full traceability and quick change-over.

Laser welding – industrial grade and customisable

  • Budget covers 2–3 kW fibre-laser sources, 3-axis or multi-station laser welding workstations and CCD vision alignment modules.
  • Capable of deep-penetration or thick-plate welding and supports 24 h continuous running.
  • Fit for: medium-to-large lines that demand high accuracy, cosmetic seams and high throughput.

Robot welding – full workstation becomes reality

  • 200 k will purchase a proven domestic 6-axis robot, laser or spot welding end-effector, safety fence and fixture package—forming a standard robot welding cell.
  • Ideal for multi-SKU, low-to-medium volume and flexible production.
  • Plenty of headroom for later upgrades such as vision, seam tracking and path optimisation.
  • Best scenarios: automation upgrade, labour-cost reduction, higher repeatability and process flexibility.


V. Selection Recommendations (Quick Decision Checklist)

If you prioritize low-cost entry-level production and focus on mass production: Consider spot welding machines (priced between 50,000 and 100,000 RMB).


If you value weld appearance, speed, and high precision: Choose a stationary laser welding machine (starting from 100,000 RMB), and you can purchase a more professional workstation in the 200,000 RMB range.


If you aim for flexible, less-manned, and complex welding paths: Configure a robotic welding system (200,000 RMB is an ideal entry-level budget).


Don't just look at the price of the main unit when purchasing equipment: Don't forget the "hidden costs" of tooling, feeding/unloading, debugging, training, and after-sales service.
