International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day or International Workers’ Day, is a national holiday celebrated in more than 80 countries worldwide.
In the 1880s, as capitalism entered the monopoly stage, workers in Europe and the United States were subjected to harsh exploitation, often working 14 to 16 hours per day.
On May 1, 1886, more than 350,000 workers in cities such as Chicago took to the streets in large-scale strikes and demonstrations, demanding the implementation of an eight-hour workday. After arduous and often bloody संघर्ष, workers ultimately won their rights.
In July 1889, the Second International, led by Friedrich Engels, held a congress in Paris. To commemorate the heroic struggle of American workers, it was decided to designate May 1 as International Workers’ Day.
On May 1, 1890, workers across Europe and the United States held grand demonstrations and rallies, marking the beginning of May Day as a symbol of unity and struggle for workers worldwide.
On May 1, 1920, China held its first large-scale commemoration of International Workers’ Day.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, in December 1949, the Central People’s Government officially designated May 1 as Labor Day and included it as a statutory public holiday.
Ordinary positions create extraordinary achievements; persistent effort brings lasting rewards over time.
Whether it is industrial workers on the production front lines, professionals active in the market, business partners dedicated to real industries, or every individual striving diligently in their respective roles—each contributes to building dreams through labor and moving forward through hard work.
On this special occasion, may we all better understand the value of labor, appreciate the dedication of every worker, and continue to write our own remarkable stories.
Let us use labor as our pen and perseverance as our ink, achieving dreams through action and creating brilliance through hard work.
